The Employee's Workplace Companion
"The tool was easy to use and the steps were clear and concise every step of the way. If I needed help, I had access to a coach. My coach worked in concert with me and an attorney just in case I'd need one. The reports that were generated from the map, were so well assembled and organized, even HR was impressed with it's depth of material and completeness.
The results were excellent and beyond my expectations. My immediate manager must now answer for the many years of poor leadership, loss of talented personnel, abuse of authority, abusive behavior and poor treatment of people under her supervision. I highly recommend The Employee Workplace Companion!
What's most important, I'm no longer depressed, no longer paralyzed getting out of bed in the morning and I'm off medications for depression. I'm no longer scared to death when my manager calls me into her office. I have my health back, I'm happier, I feel motivated in the morning and my family sees it, too! If you're tired of being intimidated in the workplace, tired of being threatened constantly with losing your job over trivialities, The Employee's Workplace Companion might just be the help you're looking for!" - HL

The Employee's Workplace Companion is used in conjunction with conflict resolution in the workplace, so that BOTH parties have the ability to document their respective accounts of events, such as, meetings, performance reviews, breakdown in communications between employees or employee to manager (and other way around), as a long term event tracking tool, or as a standalone tool. Although, this edition was developed for the employee, we have another edition that caters specifically to managers.
There are tons of articals written about conflict resolution and management in the workplace, but that's not the purpose of this process.
Let's face it... today, for many employees, for any number of reasons, it's tougher than ever before to retain and maintain employment in many companies. In this day and age, employment pressures are different. Offshoring, working more hours for less pay, fear of job loss and uncertainty, macro-economic issues in the world, personality conflicts, chemistry issues, company politics, and the list simply goes on and on.
The laws are written so that the employer, much more frequently than not, has the upper hand. One reason is "At Will" employment laws. An employee "at will" can be terminated for any reason, or no reason at all.
Most employment attorneys won't take many cases, because the chances of deriving any financial benefit are slim. The Employee's Workplace Companion objectives are to provide a simple and convenient method for an employee to assemble notes and document events when working with difficult management. An employer can use it in much the same way.
Wikipedia has an excellent definition of the at will employment law from its origin in 1877 via Horace Gray Wood's treatment on master / servant relations to the laws that make it up today.
Still, the employer has the upper hand.
The Employee's Workplace Companion gives the employee a convenient way to take notes, record dates, persons present and meeting details.
The Employee's Workplace Companion has been field tested and has enjoyed a success with former employees, wrongfully discharged employees and employees that simply want a good, solid audit trail of meetings with managers, in performance appraisals, and when a manager needs to be called to the carpet when an employee experiences conflict with his or her manager and much more.
The Employee's Workplace Companion will also put all notes and events into a formal document that may be presented to legal counsel, human resources officials, employee counseling, employee advocacy, etc.
Please review the collection of articles in the Research topic located in the map. It is because of what you see there, that this tool is necessary. It is unlikely that the law will change anytime soon. The lobbies that covet businesses right to be dominant would easily squash any movement to change or crush the way the current laws are written and interpreted.
By the way... how about that research tool (also called a "map part"). It's re-useable and makes performing the task of research fast, fun and easy.
Look at Employee's Workplace Companion as a tool for your edification, and as a way to present your "case" or your "story" to any official, whether legal, HR or others.
Introduce it to your colleagues and you can network (connect) your Employee's Workplace Companion to theirs and blend or integrate them into a single comprehensive library called a "core."
Use the collaboration tools and you can have a meeting with everyone online and ready to discuss your situation in a group setting.
Organizational politics, chemistries and personalities will always be a part of the American business fabric. Now, you have a way to document those nagging, upsetting and frustrating sessions you have with your manager. Anytime an accusation is made, or some ridiculous comment is brought up, you have a means to get it documented and stored for later meetings with HR or your legal counsel.
I think we would all agree that it takes two to tango, and sometimes, and probably more often than we would like to admit, managers need to be called to the carpet. There's simply no other way around it.
Here's a tool that will help you to document, organize and prepare your information in a simpler, cleaner and easier way.
Yes, most of us have to work for a living. We have a family to care for, mortgage payment, car payment, putting food on the table, well... you get the point!
